What a funny week we had! On Friday we were able to facetime Lillian in North Carolina. Everyone was excited to see each other, lots of giggling and silliness from everyone. Lillian will be moving to her new house soon and we are planning on sending her some letters and pictures. Movement class with Ms Erin was also very funny. The children were able to climb inside specially made bags for children and move around. Everyone had lots of fun stretching and making all kinds of funny shapes.
We continue to revisit projects we have worked on over the years. This week we painted with magnets. One magnet was dropped in paint and placed on paper. Another magnet was used to move it around the paper creating all kinds of designs. Jigsaw puzzles are very popular again. We are now working on 100 piece puzzles. The children like to challenge themselves and do puzzles without looking at a picture as a guide. On our walk we discovered a new construction site. The children want to keep going back to watch the progress. We are looking for boxes of assorted sizes as we have some new ideas for construction projects. In kindergarten the children will not be taking naps and as you know this class are champion nappers! To help the transition to no naps we are going to begin to gradually change nap time. Starting this week we will have rest time and Ms Olive will read a chapter book aloud. Next week we will shorten rest time and continue with the chapter books. If you have any questions about the changes don't hesitate to ask. Have a wonderful water festival week! https://lbs29935.smugmug.com/Weekly-2017-2018/2018 What a funny week we had! But here are the pictures from our week at school . . . https://lbs29935.smugmug.com/Weekly-2017-2018/2018 This week we have been having fun with paint. The children have been working with watercolors and they are having fun with color mixing. One day we were outside and it started to rain, we had lots of fun watching the raindrops make dots on the concrete and on our clothes. Inspired by this we decided to use Q Tips to make dots on paper. Many different patterns and designs were created just using dots. Cardboard tubes were added to the art area and they have been turned into all kinds of creatures and people. Cupcake liners are another favorite material to use, flowers, clothes for the cardboard people, butterflies and furniture are just some of the things that have been made with the liners. The children are very creative and encourage each other at the art center. Of course, construction is still the favorite activity in the class!
Swimming is on Monday and Wednesday, Ms Erin comes on Wednesday and Thursday for movement and the book mobile came. We were very excited to have a visit from Ms KA. WE showed her all the sign language we can do and we learned some new signs about the flag. On Friday we went for a walk through the wetlands. Lots of turtles were out, we listened to the sounds of the birds and we were very excited to watch an alligator swim by, we were able to see the whole body and then we watched as it went under the surface so only the eyes and nose were visible. A bird has built a nest in our window box where our beans are. We are very careful when we go out our door and we know not to touch her nest. Hopefully she will lay eggs and we will be able to hear the babies when they hatch! There has been a lot of talk about kindergarten this week. We have talked about the cafeteria and how it works, you can eat school lunch or bring your own, going on field trips in a bus, all the new classes they will be able to do and the best thing about kindergarten, no naps! Reminder, school is closed on Wednesday July 4th, Ms Olive will be out on Thursday and Friday. Have a wonderful weekend! We have photos from the week that you can check out here: https://lbs29935.smugmug.com/Weekly-2017-2018/2018lbs29935.smugmug.com/Weekly-2017-2018/2018 This week the children continued their swimming lessons at the YMCA. The children have become very confident in their swimming capabilities and are pushing themselves to get better every lesson.
Ms.Erin came this week and the children worked on spelling their names out using their bodies. The children would bend their bodies into each letter of their name in whatever way they saw fit. They were able to come up with some creative ways to create their letters. We went to visit our grandfriends this Friday and created beautiful butterflies with them. We used clothespins and tissue paper to create the butterflies. The children love spending time and catching up with their grandfriends. Our photos are here: https://lbs29935.smugmug.com/Weekly-2017-2018/2018 We had a great week relaxing after graduation! We continued our swimming lessons, and we are all getting to be little fish. We are enjoying more free time during our morning to play games with our friends, create in our art center, and of course, build in our block / construction center. Mr. Bender came one day to teach us how to throw a cast net. Some of our friends said they already know how! Our pictures are here. We've graduated! The photos from our week at school are below. We also have a photo sharing site for graduation photos. If you have any to add, please upload them!! We'll be putting a Class of 2018 website up in the next few weeks with the slideshow and other end of the year items you may like to download and have. We'll send an email with those details when it's ready. Graduation Photo Sharing is here. Thanks in advance for sharing your photos with us. Week 44 pics: https://lbs29935.smugmug.com/Weekly-2017-2018/2018 This week the children finished up their May swimming lessons. They have come along way since the beginning of the month. The children have mastered the ice cream scoop motion with their hands, kicking, blowing bubbles and dunking their heads under the water. Some of the class is even able to swim on their own!!!
Ms.Erin came this week and helped us work on our abdominal muscles by doing log rolls. The children laid on their backs with their hands by their sides and had to flip to their stomachs without using any other body part except their abdominal muscles. Along with this the children played a team building exercise where they partnered up with someone their height. They sat back to back with their arms interlocked and had to use their leg muscles and push against one another so they would be able to stand up. Some of the pairs were able to get it right away and others struggled a bit but with practice were able to get off the floor. The children have started practicing for graduation and they are so excited to show you what they have been working on!! Don’t forget to send your children to school in appropriate walking shoes so we can continue our preparation. Our photos are here. |
