We spent some time with Mrs. Kristen this week learning more about shadows and the upcoming eclipse. She brought in a light, globe, and moon models for us to practice the difference between day and night. When we are having breakfast, people on the other side of the world are eating dinner. Next week we will have another astronomy session with her.
We had an alphabet construction challenge this week with partners. They raced to build each letter of the alphabet using Legos and straight lined sticks, and they enhanced their ability to use their words and hands to work in pairs. In the classroom we are working to clean and take our work down to prepare for the next class to move in. We are continuing to talk about kindergarten, and I'm seeing more and more excitement for this big change. Our bulletin board in the hallway has new work to demonstrate how we've been working together as a team and being kind to one another. If you have not yet, please let Jodie or me know your child's last day at LBS. Thank you! Our photos are here.

This week we've added another topic to our discussions and discoveries. Showing kindness and respect towards others is a huge concept that the children should embody before leaving here. The children enjoyed kindness role play and solved some hypothetical situations. We read a great book called "How to Be a Friend" that illustrates healthy relationships and how to solve problems. We paired up and drew portraits of our partner and listed a few things about them. Next week we are going to work on team-building exercises!
Have a great weekend! Our photos are here. We've been marine animal helpers this week. Since Mr. Bender is recovering at home, we are caring for and feeding the critters in our tank. They need our help! We've been learning about sea turtles, and Mack sent us some great pictures from his visit to the aquarium this week. Thanks, Mack! We've decorated turtle shells, made playdoh to use with an assorted items provocation, and used watercolors to paint on coffee filters. We will continue our marine life study next week. Swim lessons continue for two more weeks!
Have a great weekend! Our photos are here. We had an unusual week with the holiday on Tuesday, but we've had fun! Swim lessons are going well- the children have come so far since this time last year. We are still being and discussing animal helpers, and we made our own journals this week to detail our adventures. Many of us wrote and drew about chimpanzees like Jane Goodall.
Have a great weekend! Our photos are here. This week we dissected the birds nest that was outside our porch door. We made lots of predictions and then discoveries as we used tools to investigate! We then made our own nests using yarn, glue, and balloons. It was a tricky technique, but once they dried, most of the nests were able to hold eggs!
We decided we want to be animal helpers, so we turned our kitchen area into a vet clinic. We will be introduced to famous animal helpers such as Jane Goodall and Jacques Cousteau next week. Please turn in your check for $50 (made payable to the YMCA but given to LBS) on MONDAY! We are closed Tuesday for July 4. Have a great weekend! Our photos are here. We so enjoyed watching the birds outside our porch door. From building the nest to sitting on eggs to feeding the baby birds, the parent birds kept us entertained. This week we suspect that the baby birds learned to fly since last week they were practicing flapping their wings.
We did some experiments with feathers this week testing whether they would float or sink. We also painted with feathers instead of paintbrushes to experience a different technique. Next week we will explore more animal habitats. REMINDER- we are CLOSED Tuesday July 4. Have a great weekend! Our photos are here. We hope you enjoyed our portfolio performance! The children worked so hard to learn their lines, and it showed! I'm so proud to be their teacher and to have spent the last year (or four!) with them. I can't believe it's already time to graduate.
Graduation is June 2 at 6:30 at the amphitheater on Paris Avenue. The luncheon that day will be held at Port Royal Town Hall at the very end of Paris Avenue. Both of these events are very special (and emotional because I'm tearing up right now), and we hope you and other family members will attend. Swim lessons start the following week (June 5 & 7) and at an earlier time. We are so excited! Please check your child's cubby for two birthday invitations. Have a great weekend!
