Lunch and snacks are an integral part of our program at The Little Brown School.
We eat our lunches at communal tables family-style. Our students in the 2s, 3s & pre-K classes serve themselves, pass the food around the table, pour their own milk and clear their spots when the meal is finished.
There is no time limit on our meals because we believe that a shared meal provides valuable opportunities for meaningful interactions amongst students and teachers. Stories are shared, ideas are explored and manners are practiced.
Mealtime also offers time to practice and expand skills in math (2 scoops of edamame, 1/2 a glass of milk), ELA (comparative and descriptive vocabulary) and Spanish (leche, pan, vaso) & Sign Language just to cite a few quick examples.
We shop at our local farmers' market and patronize local farmstands whenever possible. Of course we use the herbs and produce our students help grow on campus as well!
Our menus are carefully planned to offer a wide variety of foods, freshly made with real ingredients by our loving kitchen staff.
(We happily adjust meals to accommodate allergies and religious preferences by request. We are a nut-free school.)
