The Investigators had an exciting week! After spending time talking about winter, snow, and ice we got to actually experience some of that winter weather here in Beaufort! On Monday we had creative movement where we practiced jumping into hula hoops. We also got to use our imagination to a song about wearing different shoes. We got to pretend to be a roller skater, scuba diver, and even a ballerina. On Monday we talked more about trains. Since it was a beautiful day outside we created our own railroad using chalk outside. Then we got to use our bikes as trains on the railroad. On Tuesday we talked all about the ice and snow that would be coming. We remembered that it snows when it is cold out and we noticed how cold it was. We also drew a picture of train tracks that will be used for a project next week. On Thursday we had a delayed start and everyone was excited to tell their stories about the ice. On Thursday there was construction going on outside of our window. We spent a lot of the day looking at the construction and talking about the different types of trucks and tractors. On Friday we talked about what trains actually do. We learned that trains can carry things and we discussed what a train can carry. We created a chart that shows us what a train can carry. It was a great week.
Have a good weekend, Mrs. Groves and Miss Kennithiya You can see the pictures from our week here.

The Investigators had a great week! Since one the favorite choices to play with in our classroom are the trains. We began to take a deeper look at what a train actually is, what it is made of, and what it does. This is an exciting topic for us since there is such an interest in trains. On Tuesday we started our day by actually learning some parts of a train, which we reviewed through out the week. We learned train tracks, locomotive, train car, caboose, wheels, and conductor. We passed around some pictures of trains and toy trains to take a closer looks at the parts. On Wednesday we had sign language where we learned all about the letter C. We learned the signs for C, cat, car, clown, and crayons. Then Miss Julie read a book about the letter C. At the end of sign we were excited to learn the sign for train. After sign language we had two stations that had to do with trains. At one station we drew a picture of a train and our perspective on trains. At the other station we played with some blocks that could be put together to create a train. Everyone got a turn at both stations. On Thursday we practiced doing centers and did a great job! We had four available stations that the children could pick from and they did great focusing on their center. We also took some time to look at books specifically about trains. We also had music where we got to learn about classical music. We practiced playing the sticks loudly and softly to classical music and using the parachute quickly and slowly to classical music. On Friday we had French where we practiced some of our favorite French words and songs. We used stamps of shapes to create a train. Then we drew on the wheels and locomotive.
Have a great weekend, Mrs. Groves and Mrs. Pompa The pictures from the week are available here. The Investigators had an exciting week! We have continued to be interested in the cold weather and discussing what we need to wear in the cold. On Monday we reviewed our different snow signs which include snow, cold, white, coat, mittens, and hat. We had creative movement where we got to go forwards and backwards through a tunnel. We also practiced jumping and balancing. On Tuesday we drew a picture of what we like to wear in the cold and what we do in the cold weather. Many drew coats and mittens, but there was also pictures of Mommys and Daddys in the cold. On Tuesday we also played with play dough, working our fine motor skills with scissors. On Wednesday we had sign language where we learned all about the letter B. We learned the sign for B and the signs for words like bat, book, ball, and baby. Wednesday we talked more about being cold and how it actually feels to be cold. We decided that sometimes it gets so cold that it can actually make your hands sting. We did an experiment where we froze some water in a bowl. Then we passed the ice around and felt how cold it was and what it feels like to specifically be cold. On Thursday we had a fun messy project of creating snow and then painting with it. We created snow by mixing shaving cream and glue together, each child got to stir the mixture until it was perfect. Then each child created a snowy picture using the mixture. It was messy, but lots of fun! On Friday we went back to talking about cold and we decided to use ice to paint a picture. We had ice that was colored with food coloring. Each child painted the picture with the colored ice. We had a great week!
Have a great long weekend! Mrs. Groves and Mrs. Pompa You can find the photos from our link by clicking here. The Investigators had a great week getting back into the routine of things. This week we experienced some cold weather, which made the Investigators interested. We talked about the cold weather, what we wear in the cold, and we began to talk about snow. On Monday we started out by beginning the interviewing process for our portfolios. Each child was asked a series of questions and the goal is to see how each child progresses through the year. We also had yoga where we practiced some of our favorite poses like the washing machine and downward dog. On Tuesday we learned six new signs about snow including snow, cold, white, coat, mittens, and hat. These signs were appropriate for our chilly day and we used them throughout the rest of the week. We also created a collaborated portrait of the colors of winter. We used dark blue, light blue, white, and purple to paint a wintery scene. Each child had the opportunity to add to the portrait. On Wednesday we had sign language where we learned the letter A and words that start with a. We learned the signs for apple, airplane, alligator, and arm. We also investigated some glittery snowflakes and each had the chance to hold them. On Thursday we drew our self portraits for our portfolios. We each looked in the mirror and drew a picture of ourselves. We had music where we got to sing about snow and snowmen. We used the egg shakers and the parachute. We will resume with regular newsletters next week. he Investigators had an extremely busy and exciting week! We worked hard all week preparing for our different Holiday projects. Everyday we worked on our songs and dance that we would be performing on Friday! On Monday we had to finish our special cards. We took our hands and created a Christmas tree with paint. Then we decorated the tree with crayons and glitter. We also created our individual wrapping paper we would be using for our parent presents. We took a large piece of white easel paper and colored a picture on it. On Tuesday we got to go visit our grand friends at the Helena House. We sang our favorite Christmas songs and showed them our dance. Then we got to pass out the presents we collected during 'adopt a grand friend'. On Wednesday we had a special day that we celebrated the story 'The Night Before Christmas'. Everyone got to wear pajamas to school and many friends brought in something to share about their holiday traditions and what they do on the night before Christmas. We also painted with red and green on small buckets that Naomi brought for us. We loved painting the bucket inside and out. We also painted a Christmas ornament with red and green. On Thursday we practiced outside for our upcoming performance. We sang all of the Christmas songs with Miss Cooke and practiced our sign language with Miss Julie. On Friday it was the big day! We got to ride in wagons to the Shed. Then we had the opportunity to dance and sing on the stage! We definitely had a great time, and all of our favorite two and three year olds managed to steal the show! Every one of them did a great job! We are open Monday and Friday next week.
