The Investigators had a fun week learning more about the upcoming holiday of Thanksgiving. We have been preparing for our upcoming trip to the Helena House by singing our favorite Thanksgiving songs. We've also been working hard at our sign language story of the first Thanksgiving. We started Monday with some yoga. We had a great time practicing our favorite poses including the dancing crab, the downward dog, and the washing machine. We love to practice saying 'namaste'. We began to talk more about Thanksgiving and what it means to be thankful. We created a chart that each child stated what they are thankful for. On Monday half of us began a special turkey project. We painted the majority of our hands brown, like the turkey's body, then we got to choose our four favorite colors for the remaining fingers as the feathers. On Tuesday the remaining friends got to finish their turkey's. Some of our friends also got to work hard at completing their 'parts of a leaf' project. On Tuesday we also colored in the leaves we would be giving to our grandfriends at the Helena House. We then wrote down why we were thankful for our grandfriends. Our answers varied from 'Because I love them' to 'Daddy goes to see them', and 'Pizza'. On Wednesday we had sign language where Miss Julie allowed us to perfect our sign language story. We also got to have a Thanksgiving feast. We chose what we wanted to have and learned the signs for the food. This included corn, bread, and cake. On Wednesday we completed our turkeys by drawing the legs, wattle (or gobbler as we were calling it), and face. We used orange for the legs, red for the wattle, and brown for the face. On Thursday we went for a special 'thankful walk'. We walked around our community and decided what we were thankful for. We decided we were thankful for the dump trucks, the alligators, the trees, the tractors, the leaves, the firetrucks, and more! It was perfect for us to learn that we have many things to be thankful for. On Friday we had French where we learned some Thanksgiving French words. We enjoyed playing with Madame and singing French songs with her. On Friday we also thought back to our walk and we decided to draw a picture of what we are thankful for. Have a great weekend, Mrs. Groves and Mrs. Pompa

The Investigators had an exciting week. We continued to learn more about leaves, where they come from, what colors and shapes they are, and the parts of a leaf. We started the week on Tuesday when we created our own leaves by painting with red, orange, and yellow. Instead of the usual painting, we did a no mess painting. We took a piece of wax paper and added the paint. We then added another piece of wax paper on top so we were able to move the paint around with our fingers without getting messy. We loved it! On Wednesday we had sign language where we learned all about Thanksgiving. We continued to learn the story of Thanksgiving and specific signs that go with it. These signs include ship, Plymouth Rock, Pilgrims, Native Americans, harvest, corn, hunt, turkey, thankful, family, gather, November, and. Thanksgiving. We will be continuing to practice this and perform it at the Helena House for. Thanksgiving. On Wednesday we also continued our leaf projects by drawing our favorite leaves on paper using green, yellow, red, orange, and brown crayons.on Thursday we finished our leaf projects by adding the parts of the leaf. This included using string as the stalk and glitter as the veins. We then glued the whole leaf to the drawing we had complete previously. We also had music where we sung lots of songs about Thanksgiving and got to play jam band. We loved the song about the fat turkey! Thursday it was also Mrs. Groves' birthday and we got to give her our card we had made. The best part was that we got to eat cupcakes with purple icing! On Friday we decided to go for a small walk to look for the different leaves we had to been learning about. Our favorite leaves were the red and yellow ones. It was a great week! Mrs. Groves and Mrs. Pompa What an exciting, busy, and fun week the Investigators had! We started off Monday by having creative movement. We got to work on our tumbling skills by doing log rolls, somersaults, and backward rolls. We each got to take turns working with Miss Sue and using the mat. After creative movement we finally got the chance to finish our witches! We glued some string for hair, a foam heart for lips, and some googly eyes. The witches looked just like witch from our favorite book 'Big Pumpkin' by Erica Silverman. On Tuesday we started out the day by sitting a bunch of pumpkins on a table to see how the students would react to them. They loved all of the pumpkins and were interested in feeling all the grooves on the pumpkins. We took sometime to just explore the different pumpkins and look at the different sizes. Then we began to talk about what was on the inside of the pumpkin. Some of our guesses were seeds, a Mommy, a Daddy, and Santa. We continued to actually cut open our big pumpkin to find what was on the inside. The Investigators discovered many seeds within the orange, slimy insides of the pumpkin. Every child took a turn to scoop out the pumpkin. Then we took some sensory time and played with the orange gook that came out of the pumpkin. It was a lot of fun! On Wednesday it was extremely busy day due to picture day. All of the students did a great job smiling their best for the camera! On Thursday it was finally Halloween. We had a great time dressing up and having a parade around Port Royal. We got to ride in the wagons and visit some of our favorite businesses. The highlights for us were visiting our grandfriends at Helena House and visiting the Port Royal fire department, we even got to see and touch the fire trucks! On Friday we finished up our Halloween fun by painting pumpkins using our favorite colors. We also had French where we loved singing songs in French and learning some new vocabulary. In the afternoon we had the chance to celebrate Sophie's 3rd birthday! What a fantastic week! Have a great weekend, Mrs. Groves and Mrs. Pompa |
