his week we just want to take the time to update you on all of the progress we are making in our class. We are all getting so big and learning so much each day! We are all aware of the day-to-day routines in our classroom. We have the security of knowing what comes next, but we also know how to be a little flexible when things change. We know that we wash our hands when we come in from outside. We know we sit down at mealtimes. We even know that we lay on our mats right after lunch. We are doing a great job of using our verbal and nonverbal skills. We know how to sign things that we can and cannot say. Even our smallest friends can sign "more", "please", and sometimes "thank you". We are learning how to interact with one another. We recognize our friends by name. Some of our older friends can say each other's names, but even our younger friends can point to or look at the correct friend when a name is mentioned. At mealtimes, we are all very good at sitting at the table until we are told we can get up. We are making steady progress on using our utensils instead of our fingers. We are beginning to use cups without lids during snacks. The few times that we have attempted this it has been more successful than expected. Some of our friends have begun eating cereal with the milk added into the bowl for breakfast. We've actually had very few spills or big messes. We've all gotten really good at using our manners and singing and doing the hand motions for "The Thank You Song". As you may or may not know, when we get to the two-year old class we cannot have pacifiers during the day. Ms. Tina, Ms. Tallent, and Ms. Marks have been working to eliminate them now to avoid having to take them away right before transitioning. Eight friends started out in our class with pacifiers. Currently only one or two need them and only during rest time. We actually had one day this week that we didn't need a single pacifier! That is outstanding! Finally, we wanted to make you aware of potty training progress. Currently nine of our friends sit on the potty throughout the day. This doesn't mean that all go potty. It just means that they are comfortable with the routine and getting prepared for potty training. However, among the nine, three of them are actually going potty on a steady basis. That just means they go when we take them. Soon they will be able to tell us when they need to go. We are all getting so big and learning all of the time. If you look back at pictures from our first days here they seem like forever ago. Thank you so much for your help and support in our learning process. Our class is amazing because we all work so hard to make it that way!!

The weather definitely made this an interesting week for us. At the beginning of week, we got to complete all of our Valentine's Day projects. We painted our goodie bags, and we finished our cards for our parents. Then we made brownies for our friends at the police and fire station. We had plans to take a class trip to the post office, but the weather kept us inside. Maybe we'll be able to go one day next week. However, we did mail Valentine's cards to all of our parents. We hope you loved them. Staying inside allowed us to try out some new activities. We got to set up the tunnel, where we practiced taking turns crawling through. We also learned about going in the right direction so that there were no traffic jams. Then we got to set up the ball pit. We all enjoyed watching Mrs. Tallent blow it up for us. Then we all piled inside and pretended we were in a boat as we sang "Row, row, row your boat". In the middle of the week when we finally got to go for our walk, we found some new surprises. There was water in the areas of the wetland that were all dried up last week. Plus the water under the big bridge was much higher. But the neatest thing was that the rain and water brought back a lot of the animals. We got to see birds and turtles that we hadn't seen in a while. And our friends the alligators returned! We were so excited to see them! On Thursday morning we got to go visit the firefighters to drop off our poster and our brownies. They were so thankful for the treats. They showed us the fire truck and gave us stickers. Then we joined the rest of the school to visit our grand-friends at the Helena House. We had a great time singing and celebrating Valentine's Day with them. They really enjoyed the cards we made for them. We hope everyone had a wonderful day Thursday. Thank you so much for making our Valentine's Day special by bringing in cards and treats for our friends and teachers. The parents are a huge part of what makes our class so great. Your help and cooperation are always appreciated! Have a great weekend! And don't forget LBS is closed Monday for President's Day! See you Tuesday. We had a very productive week here in the Explorers Class. We started working on our Community Service Project for this month. We created a beautiful poster to deliver to our firefighter friends for Valentine's Day. We also began work on other Valentine's Day projects. This was perfect timing since our shape for this week is a heart. We've had lots of fun incorporating hearts into all of this week's projects. During Yoga this week we learned how to do a more advanced version of the downward dog pose. Plus Ms. Brittney taught us the turtle pose. We are working on becoming "yoga masters". You'd be amazed at the poses we can all do. During Music we got to play the big drums. Mrs. Cooke taught us some of the songs we will be singing for our grandfriends next week. So far, we will be singing You Are My Sunshine and Skidamarink. There will be a third song added soon. Next week will be another busy week. We are going to talk about rectangles. on Tuesday we will be heading over to the post office to learn about mail. On Wednesday we will be delivering our poster to the firefighters. And on Thursday we will be going to visit our grandfriends at the Helena House for a Valentine's Day celebration. You are welcome to join us for this visit. We will be leaving the school at 9:15. Have a great weekend!! This week was very interesting. Mother Nature provided us with many different types of weather. We got to experience some warm, sunny days and some windy cooler days. We got to see the trees dancing and we got to feel the wind blowing through our hair. We started learning about squares. We learned that a square has four sides and that a box is made up of squares. We made square frames and painted them. During circle time lately we have discovered that we have some favorite books. We really enjoy Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You? and The Very Hungry Caterpillar. We love making all of the sounds. We are becoming such good singers and dancers. We love to do the Teddy Bear Dance, The Elephant Walk, and The Ants Go Marching. On our walks this week many of us got to walk alongside the buggy instead of riding in it. We really enjoyed seeing the turtles, the ducks, and the squirrels. Early in the week we even got to see some of the egrets (the big white birds) returning for the warmer weather. During sign this week we learned "D" words. Ms. Julie taught us the signs for doll, dress, daddy ( and mommy), and deer. We did really well listening and demonstrating the signs. We're so smart! Potty training is going really well. Even the littlest ones are showing interest in joining us in the bathroom. We are getting comfortable sitting on the toilet. Plus we're learning to help pull down and pull up our clothes. Please remember to dress your child in appropriate clothes for potty training. Thanks so much for another great week!! Please make sure that your child has a complete change of clothing in his or her cubby. And make sure that your child has some form of head cover (like a hat!) for our walks and outside play. Have a great weekend!! |
