The Investigators had a fun week this week! We officially have our whole class now. We got a new student named Christian on Monday. The class was very welcoming to him. This week we have been working on some things for our portfolio. Three times a year we do an interview, self portrait, picture, and measurement of each child to see how the child progresses. We also have continued to work on our letters during circle and through out the day. We have several activities we do with letters, such as our letter dinosaur who we have to feed lots of letters to! On Monday we started off our week with some yoga! We love to 'travel' to different places and learn new poses. We worked on our interviews which consisted of questions such as 'What is your favorite snack?' And 'What is your favorite animal?' On Tuesday we took each child's picture outside to see how much they will grow through out the year. We also played with play dough, we love using the scissors. On Wednesday we had sign language! We reviewed the signs for eat and drink. We also learned the signs for hot dog, ham burger, french fries, ice cream, and milk. We also took each child's height with a yard stick to go in their portfolio. We had two stations one with puzzles and one with felt shapes where we could take turns working our fine motor skills. On Thursday we made the best of a rainy morning by going on an alphabet scavenger hunt! Every child had to close their eyes, when they opened their eyes they had to go find all the magnetic letters around the room. We also had music. We got to sing about Pete the Cat while reading three of his stories! There was even a giant stuffed Pete the Cat! On Friday we had water day. We love having water day and are taking advantage of playing outside in the cool water. Last week will be our last water day! It was a fun week. If you have not already please send in an updated family picture for this year. Thanks, Mrs. Groves and Mrs. Pompa The Investigators had a great week! We continued to learn about our letters and talked about all the friends in our class. We want to welcome our new friend Finley, she fits in well with all of our students! On Monday we went for a walk to see the alligators! We didn't get to see an alligator, but we did see some turtles and birds! We do well walking while holding onto our shapes rope, we are becoming such big kids. On Tuesday we practiced our fine motor skills with some scissors and play dough. We all love the scissors and do well at cutting. We also practiced shapes using the felt cut outs. We identified some shapes we knew and learned some shapes we didn't know. On Wednesday we started off the day by painting a milk jug. The milk jug magically turned into the letter monster or letter dinosaur. We sing about letter dinosaur and then he eats all of our letters! We also took a look in the mirror and created self portraits to go into our portfolio. On Thursday we each held onto our own small letter, then when our letter was called we got to feed the letter dinosaur. It was a lot of fun! Since it was rainy we also enjoyed dress up and blocks. We were fascinated with all the rain so we created a pastel picture of what the rainy day looked like to us. They turned out to be beautiful. On Friday we had water day. We used shaving cream and got to paint each other with the shaving cream, so we might smell like a man! Overall, it was a great week! We are doing well at learning our letters. We all know our own letter, now we are working at learning each others letter! Have a great weekend! Mrs. Groves and Mrs. Pompa The Investigators had a special week because we introduced letters! How we introduce letters in the twos class is by showing each child that they have their own special letter, the first letter of their name. The children begin to learn what their letter is and the letters of their friends. Through the year we will introduce the rest of the alphabet slowly by relating a letter to a subject we are talking to. For example last year we learned the letter W when it was winter time. The children are all very excited to see that they have their own letter and are already beginning to recognize their letter and their friends letters. On Monday we officially introduced twelve letters, S, G, N, M, R, L, C, H, O, T, D, and P. Each stands for a child’s name. We also had yoga we loved doing our different poses like the downward dog pose, turtle pose, and cat pose. On Tuesday we started a two day letter project. Each child picked a color for their piece of paper, then colored in their letter with their favorite color crayons. On Wednesday we continued on our project by having small groups of four. We put glue on the letters they had colored the previous day in the shape of their letter. Then they had to take small pieces of construction paper and put them on the lines of glue. The letters turned out beautiful and will be hung in the classroom soon! On Thursday we had small groups of seven and picked out a color to have our names written in. Then each child got to take a stamp and practice stamping their letter beside their name. We also got to have music! We played a game where we passed a ball to music, when the music stopped whoever had the ball got to play a big drum! On Friday we had our favorite water day! It is so nice to play in the water on Friday’s when it is so hot during the week! We got to splash and play. Have a great weekend! Mrs. Groves and Mrs. Pompa The Investigators had a fun week learning about how all of our friends have many differences. On Monday we started by talking about how we all look different. We looked in the mirror and saw how each of us had different color hair and eyes. We made two charts. one chart had the color hair of everyone in our class, the other had the color eyes of everyone in our class. We drew a picture of our face using the colors of our hair and eyes. On Tuesday we talked about how everyone has hands and feet, ten fingers, and ten toes. However, everyone's hands and feet look very different. We took all our shoes off and looked at how different our feet are. We also observed how different our hands are. Each child got to paint both their foot and their hand and put them on a poster so we could see the differences in all the hands and feet. On Wednesday we had a very special day! We took a walk to the Port Royal Elementary and played on the playground. We had so much fun going on the dinosaur slide, climbing up the ladders, and running around! We also got to eat our snack as a picnic at the park. On Thursday we talked about how everyone has a different body and everyone is meant to be different shapes and sizes. We traced each child's body with chalk outside and noticed how each body looked extremely different! We also got our first opportunity to go on the porch to play. We loved playing with the kitchen set, cars, and baby dolls. On Friday we loved having water day! Our favorite part was playing with the bubbles and splashing our friends! It was a great week! Have a great weekend! Mrs. Groves and Mrs. Pompa |
