What an exciting couple of weeks we’ve had! Last week on Monday we got to take school pictures. We got to have our individual pictures, our class picture, and our whole school pictures taken. Then on Tuesday, we got to go and visit our “grand-friends” at the Helena House. We got to sing our Turkey song and do the “Turkey Pokey”. We really enjoyed sharing our thankfulness with our friends. Then we all had a nice little break to spend Thanksgiving with our families. It sounds like we all had a great holiday with our moms and dads. After the long weekend it was time to get back to school. We all came back in good spirits and ready to learn. We started learning the song “Jingle Bells” for our upcoming holiday performance. We also used red and green bingo daubers and red and green crayons to decorate posters for our room. Ms. Laura even brought in blank Christmas trees for us to decorate with the colored pencils. Now that we are getting bigger, we are starting to venture out into other parts of our school. This week we got to go over and play on the porch for a while. We really enjoyed the kitchen set, the blocks, and the baby dolls. We also got to play on the big playground out front this week. The play house was a big hit and so were the bigger bikes. We can’t wait to see where we can explore next! Ms. Julie came to visit this week. She brought a mirror so that we could see the expressions on our faces as we talked about emotions. She taught us the signs for happy, sad, and mad. We all got to look in the mirror to see our beautiful smiles, our poked-out lips, and our scrunched-up faces. Ms. Julie’s lessons are always so much fun. This week, we used the shape stamps to create snowmen. They turned out really cute. They are displayed in our classroom so that you can see them when you come in the door. We also created shape collages. Starting at the beginning of the new year we will be further exploring shapes. This week was just an introduction. Over the next couple of weeks we will be working on holiday projects and learning nursery rhymes. We should all have a blast since we love to sing and dance lately. Thank you to all of you who came for parent/teacher conferences this week. It was nice to sit down and talk to you about your child and your concerns. If there are ever any questions or concerns that you feel we need to discuss, please make us or Mrs. Willis aware so that a conference can be scheduled. It’s starting to get a little colder outside. Please be sure that your child has a thicker jacket and something to cover his or her head. We will continue to go on our walks and explore nature throughout the year, and we want to ensure that each child is warm. Thank you so much for your cooperation. Have a great weekend!!

This week was another exciting week in the Explorers classroom. We finished talking about the color green. On our walks we got to look at the green water, the green leaves, and the green grass. We painted with green paint, colored with green crayons, and played with green play dough. This week we also began discussing thankfulness. We've started singing our "Thank You Song" before lunch each day. We also started practicing the Thanksgiving songs we are going to sing at the Helena House next week. Most of our week was spent working on projects for the upcoming holidays. Next week we will be celebrating our first two-year old birthday in our class. We're all learning how to sing the "Happy Birthday Song" in anticipation. On Monday, we will be having picture day. Please have your child at school by 8:45 that day. On Tuesday morning we will be making a trip to see our grand friends at Helena House. You are welcome to join us. We will be leaving the school at 9:15. The Little Brown School will be closed next week on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday to celebrate the Thanksgiving Holiday. We hope that you all have a safe and happy holiday! Have a great weekend!! It has been another exciting week in the Explorers Class. In Yoga, Ms. Brittney taught us a new move called the turtle pose. Then we got to review some of the movements we already know like the butterfly, the elephant, the cobra, and the downward dog (our favorite). Some of our friends are really starting to enjoy our yoga classes and really beginning to participate. Yoga is also becoming a really good tool to help us to calm down and listen during really chaotic times. Ms. Laura brought in paper for us to shred on Thursday this week. The way we grab the paper and pull in opposite directions is called a bilateral movement. Ripping paper is another to help us to develop early writing skills. This week we introduced the color green. We mixed yellow food coloring and blue food coloring to make green. Then we used our green water along with some flour, oil, water, and salt to make green play dough. Then we got to use our fingers and some plastic knives to pat it, roll it, and cut it. Later, we used our plastic spoons and plastic cups to practice mixing and stirring. Then we got to blow bubbles and chase them. We’re learning how to all sorts of interesting things with our hands and with tools. We also got to try out our block stacking skills this week. Almost all of us can stack at least two blocks. Some of us can even stack as many as seven blocks. This is really advanced for our age. We’re also learning how to use markers and crayons without putting them into our mouths. Most of us now know that we color the paper not bite the crayon. You should be noticing at home how much our verbal skills are improving. We are definitely beginning to use our words more in the classroom. Some of our older classmates are learning to say each other’s names. Some of our younger classmates are becoming more proficient in using sign language and attempting to communicate without crying. This week in the class, we started making a few changes. We moved lunch time and nap time back by about 15 minutes. This is helping all of our friends to eat better and sleep better. This change along with the time change has helped each child to get in a solid two hour nap each day. Better naps have improved our afternoons. We have also begun to use smiley faces to promote good behavior in our classroom. For example, if a child comes to sit on the carpet for circle time when asked, then he gets a smiley face on his hand. Most of us want that smiley face so we come and sit on the carpet. Thank you so much to all of you who sent in family pictures this week. If you haven’t had an opportunity to bring one in please do so when you can. Also if you would rather email pictures just send them to Jodie. We can print them for you. Thank you so much for all of your help and cooperation. Have a great holiday weekend!! See you Tuesday. We had so much fun this week. We were able to incorporate the color orange into learning about Halloween and pumpkins and fall. On our walks we were able to collect leaves of all shapes and colors. It was so nice to experience the effects of the weather change on our environment. This week Ms. Laura brought over a variety of orange shapes for us to make a beautiful, orange collage. Then we used the orange pompoms to create a 3-D pumpkin patch. And we also explored orange circles this week. We talked a lot about pumpkins this week. We sang our favorite pumpkin song, and we even got to cut open a pumpkin. We opened it up and dug out the seeds. We got to feel the hard pumpkin seeds and the slimy, stringy insides of the pumpkin. Who knew the inside of a pumpkin could be so interesting? We also got to have our annual Halloween Parade on Wednesday. The whole school came together to tour the neighborhood and show off our costumes. It was so much fun to have many of our parents join us and share in the celebration. Next week we will begin discussing the color green, and we will be talking about thankfulness and what we are thankful for. If you could send in one or two family pictures (these can be pictures of parents, grandparents, siblings, pets, or anything you feel is important to your family) to help us with our project, it would be a great help. Thank you so much for all that you do in support of our classroom. Have a great weekend!! Mrs. Tallent, Mrs. Bergmann & Ms. Crawford |
