Happy fourth birthday to Nathan (6/25)!!
We've done some great experiments to learn about "cause and effect" this week. When we make a change, it makes something else happen. For example, when we add vinegar to baking soda, it makes a bubbly volcanic eruption! We caused something to happen by making a change. Check out our artwork in the classroom replicating the experiment! We used special photo paper and magnetic letters to create an unusual piece of art. We changed the paper by adding letters, sunlight, and water and made something really different. It was good practice to recognize the letters in our name, and we were exposed to both capital and lowercase. We will also find out what happens when we put different amounts of liquid in water balloons. Stay tuned for that update. We enjoyed a walk to the amphitheater through the wetlands on Thursday, and I was very impressed. We held hands and didn't use the shape rope, we used listening ears, and we had a great time. We even saw a baby alligator. Next week we will be playing games and working in teams to practice our shapes and positional words. We love playing letter/name recognition games before lunch, and we don't even realize we're doing "work" while we're playing. We are closed Friday July 3 in observance of the Fourth of July. Have a great weekend! Our photos are here.

Our second week as Researchers has been quite exciting! We started off with a science experiment involving planting seeds while following directions and not following directions. We are documenting our observations of the sprouts (or lack of), and hopefully we'll see the connection between following directions and good things happening! Next week we are going to expand on this concept by discussing "cause and effect."
Ms. Fripp came back with her kazoos, and she recorded us on her tablet playing and singing. We liked hearing ourselves. I started giving out Super Star awards to classmates who are being great listeners, kind friends, and good role models for the younger children. I would much rather recognize and praise good behavior, and hopefully all the kids will strive to earn positive attention. We're working on it! A vocabulary word we discussed this week is "refreshing;" water, honeydew melon, and slushies are what we consider refreshing. Something refreshing makes us feel better when we're hot. Our room has been insulated, so check out our ceiling! The "puffy clouds" will be painted, and we have plans to decorate it. We can't wait for our indoor/outdoor classroom to have a beautiful sky at the top. Have a great weekend! You can find our photos here. Molly Fastenau What a great first week we've had as Researchers! We are enjoying our new classroom and exploring different centers during free play. We've talked about being "the big kids" and what we want to learn this year. On the back of our centers shelf we have a cloud with all the predictions we have made about our year in the pre-k class. As we go along we will be checking off the predictions that have come true! We also made our birthday handprints which will help us celebrate each child on their special day. As always you are welcome to come for cupcakes on your child's birthday (or convenient day if the day falls on a weekend). Let us know when you're available, and we'll make it work! Ms. Fripp joined us this week for an extra special Music class and brought kazoos! We performed our names and a couple of songs using these silly instruments, and it was a lot of fun. We practiced patience as we waited our turns and listened to our friends.
I'm very excited about this upcoming year! Have a great weekend! Molly Fastenau Our photos are here. This week we say goodbye to our year as Inquirers and prepare to move up to pre-K (Researchers). We are so excited about the year ahead. Don't forget that there is an Open House on Sunday from 2:30-3:30 if you want to check out the classroom and meet the teachers.
