This week was another exciting week in the Explorers class. We learned about stars. We even got to paint our own stars to hang in the classroom. We are all getting really good at using tools. We can use a paintbrush to paint a beautiful picture, and we can use a spoon to eat our food. We are also getting good at drinking from a cup without a lid. Soon we won't need the lidded cups at all. We've also eliminated all pacifiers in our class. We are becoming such big kids. In Yoga this week we did the butterfly pose, the crab pose, and the happy baby pose. In Music this week we got to use the sticks to make different rhythms ( fast & slow), and we got to dance with the colored handkerchiefs to make a rainbow. We really enjoy our specials classes and the new activities we learn. On our walks this week we got to see many new and exciting animals. There were especially lots of birds. There are ducks, geese, and cardinals. The birds we noticed the most were the white egrets. They seem to be everywhere in the Wetlands. We even got to see them building their nests, which gave us some great ideas for next week. We will be learning about ovals so we are going to attempt to build our own nests with (oval) eggs inside. This should be a fun experience for all. Thanks so much for all of your cooperation. Have a great weekend!

We began learning about diamonds this week. We were even able to create our own beautiful diamonds to hang in our classroom. And we learned the sign for diamond. We're really coming a long way with our shapes. Through playing with shape blocks and going on shape searches, we almost all know the basic shapes: circle, square, and triangle. Rectangle is a little more difficult to comprehend, but heart and star are pretty familiar too. We also read some new books this week. We got to read "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom", "The Very Busy Spider", and "Teeth Are Not For Biting". Our class is full of good listeners. We love checking out new books. We love reading books with animals and animal noises and books about transportation like trucks, planes, and buses. This week, Ms. Julie taught us the signs for "G" words. We learned how to sign giraffe, glue, glasses, and grapes. She even took the time to teach us the sign for diamond. Mrs. Tallent had tried to guess what this sign would be and got it absolutely wrong, so thank goodness Ms. Julie was here to save the day. Over the next couple of weeks, we will continue our learning about shapes and we will be talking about Easter. If you ever have any ideas or contributions to our lessons your help is always welcome. Please try to make sure that you check the board to see if your child needs diapers so that we don't run out. And try to make sure child has at least one weather appropriate change of clothes, because accidents do happen and we don't always have extras. Just a reminder: instructional time begins each morning at 9:00. Please try to have your child here for that so that he or she does not miss out on the things we are learning. As always, thanks so much for your help and cooperation! Have a great weekend! This week was a Seuss-tastic week at The Little Brown School!! We had such a busy and exciting time. We had many new foods this week. We got to eat Red Fish and Blue Fish, Cat in the Hat snacks, and Green Eggs and Ham. It was interesting to see how each of us responded to the new foods. Some of our friends loved trying something new. Others refused to even touch the new foods. We started the week with Ms. Brittney reviewing some of our favorite moves. We did the downward dog, the elephant, and the dinosaur walk. We're all continuing to participate and enjoy Yoga. We also had Music this week. We had so much fun singing and dancing and clapping. Mrs. Cooke brought in the parachute, and we got to shake it and put it up and down. We even got to play peek-a-boo underneath it. It's amazing to see how all of us enjoy music! Ms. Julie joined us on Wednesday for sign language. She taught us some "F" words. We learned fan, fly, fire and fish. This week, we got to dress up on Wacky Wednesday. It was very interesting to see everyone's interpretation of wacky. we had crazy hats, brightly colored tu-tus, and even crazy hair. Since we were celebrating Dr. Suess's birthday, some of our parents and grandparents came in and read some of our favorite stories. We got to hear Green Eggs and Ham, Mr. Brown Can Moo! Can You?, and There's a Wocket in my Pocket among other stories. Thank you so much to the parents who were able to join us. Even if you weren't able to join us this week , please know that you are welcome to visit our class at any time. We're looking forward to more exciting adventures next week. Have a great weekend!! This week we got to go on a few nice walks when the weather was nice. We got to see a lot of new animals there and a few that we hadn't seen in a while. Our friends, the alligators, had returned to the Wetlands and we were so happy to see them. We also got to see lots of new and interesting birds. We loved seeing the Canadian geese, the cardinals, and different types of ducks. We also got to hear all of the sounds that they made. We even tried to mock some of the sounds that they made. It is so interesting to see how the seasons change and how our environment is affected. On Tuesday this week, it rained all day long, so we had to search for new and interesting activities. Mrs. Tallent and Ms. Tina decided to let us combine classes with the two-year olds. We left the door open between the classrooms so that we can explore both areas. We really enjoyed being able to check out the other class while still being able to return to the safety of our class. Plus we were able to listen to some new songs and learn some new dances. These activities helped us to have a great day even though we were indoors. Ms. Julie came in this week to teach us some weather signs. She taught us the signs for wind, rain, snow, and (our favorite) thunder. We always enjoy it when she comes to visit. She teaches us signs that relate to our everyday environment. We began talking about triangles this week. We played with the triangle blocks and the rectangle blocks. We used them to build towers and houses. Next week we will be working on rectangles. Dr. Suess's birthday is this week, so we started reading some of his stories. We read "There's a Wocket in my Pocket", "Green Eggs and Ham", and "Mr. Brown Can Moo! Can You?". Next week we will be reading more of his stories. It's so much fun to hear his rhymes and stories. We will also be having readers to come in and read stories to our class. If you would like to read for us, please speak to Mrs. Willis so that you can work out a day and time. We would love to have you join us. Thanks for all that you do! |
