This week, we had lots of fun with the color red. We looked at all of the red things that we see on our walk each day. Our stroller is red. The firetrucks at the fire station are red. We were even able to see some red cardinals playing in the trees this week. Ms. Tina brought in a red ball and some colorful wiggles for us to hang from the ceiling, and Ms. Laura brought in lots of red items for us to play with this week. She also brought some tubes, and we put the different colored balls and materials through them. We had so much fun that we are going to continue talking about red next week. If you can dress your child in red on Friday, that would be greatly appreciated. We also enjoyed our Sign Language class with Ms. Julie on Wednesday of this week. We reviewed eat and drink, and we learned the signs for milk and cookies. She teaches us little songs to help us remember the signs. During one of the songs, she was also able to show us the sign for all done. Most of these signs will be easy for us to learn because these are words that we use in our classroom already. Our class is almost out of bug spray. It would be great if you could bring in more when you get an opportunity. Thank you so much for your cooperation. Have an excellent holiday weekend, and we’ll see you next week!

This week was very exciting. We had Yoga class on Monday where we tried the elephant pose, the cobra, and the turtle pose. We are really starting to learn a lot of the moves. Also, his week we began our Sign Language class. On Wednesday, Ms. Julie came in and taught us the signs for eat and drink. She brought lots of props to help us understand the signs she was demonstrating, and she even taught us a new song. Many of us can now do the sign for eat, more, please, and thank you. It’s amazing how much we have learned in such a short period of time. We decided to postpone learning about the sounds around us so that we can begin learning about the things we see. A good place to start is by introducing colors. This week we began focusing on the colors around us. Ms. Laura helped us by bringing in some multi-colored balloons and pompoms. We got to hold them and talk about the different colors. She also brought over some soapy paints for us to use during water play on Tuesday. Mrs. Willis brought in a sailboat and parked it on our playground for us to paint. We all had a blast painting the boat, the table, the ground, and even ourselves. It was a great learning experience! In the classroom, we used finger paints and crayons to continue exploring colors. You can help us to learn about colors at home simply by talking to us about the colors around us. Simply by saying, “I like your purple shirt” or “Look at the brown dog”. This helps us to associate the color with an actual object. On our walks this week, we talked a lot about the world around us. We spent our time looking at the red stop sign and the brown and green trees. We got to see all of the baby animals in the pond too. There are baby birds, baby ducks, and even baby alligators there. We really enjoy seeing them and trying to imitate the sounds that they make as we see them. Speaking of animals, our friend Colton’s mom works at Sea Island Animal Hospital. On Friday, she arranged for one of her animal friends to come and visit our classroom. He was a therapy dog named Tiger. It was so exciting to see him and pet him and bark at him. We really appreciated the hands-on experience with such a gentle animal. Thank you to all of our parents for your cooperation. Things like providing diapers and supplies when needed, getting your children here in time for the morning walk, and keeping an open line of communication help us to keep our classroom to run smoothly. Have a great weekend!! This week we welcomed our new friend,Tula. She is beginning to get adjusted to our steadily growing group. Since we have almost all of our friends now, we got a new Bye-Bye Buggy for our walks. With twelve seats (six in each buggy) we will still be able to go on our walks each day once we’re all here in September. Our walks are an excellent tool for learning about the world around us. They help us to expand our vocabulary. Mrs. Tallent and Mrs. Bergmann talk to us about the things that we see while we’re out. Many of us can already say words like bird, truck, car, and airplane. It won’t be long before we start stringing words together to communicate our ideas. We saw some interesting things on our walks this week. We got to see mama ducks and their babies. Then we got to see a little alligator and a big alligator. On Thursday, we even got to see one of our teachers out walking her dogs. We used these opportunities to talk about the animals in our environment and the sounds that they make. This was an excellent introduction into our learning about the things that we can hear, which we will be studying over the next couple of weeks. _This week we got to spend a lot of time indoors due to the rainy weather. However, we did get to go for our walk every morning. On Wednesday morning, the rain started just before we were done with our walk. This allowed us to feel the raindrops on our heads, and we even caught some in our mouths as we sang, “If all the raindrops were lemon drops and gumdrops...” On Monday we had Yoga and Ms. Brittney taught us the “butterfly” and the “dinosaur walk” this week. We liked the songs, but we didn’t quite grasp the movements yet. Not to worry, soon we’ll be able to enjoy doing the movements along with the music. Since there will be no Music class again until October as Ms. Cooke is on maternity leave, we decided to do our own musical activity. We got out the big drum and put the frogs on it. As we beat the drum, the frogs hopped and “danced”. We all laughed and had fun with this activity. The dark clouds outside made it dark enough to use our light table this week. We were able to look through the kaleidoscope blocks to see the colors and patterns inside. This type of play allowed us to introduce light and dark, and colors and patterns. This week we finished up learning about textures with Ms. Laura. She brought over the texture bags, the textured balls, and the gourds for us to interact with. Although we will continue exploring textures, our focus for the next couple of weeks is going to shift to sounds. Ms. Laura is going to assist us in exploring the things that we hear. This week was also a sad week. On Friday of this week we will be saying “Goodbye” to our friend Ms. Alex, who works in the two-year old room. It is hard to see her go, but she will be moving on to pursue her career goals. We shall all truly miss her. We look forward to having another fun and interesting week next week. Have a great weekend!! This week was an interesting week for us. At the beginning of the week we welcomed our new friend, Grayson. He is one of the younger ones in our class, but he seems to be fitting in quite nicely. It’s so exciting to see our class continue to grow. Soon we will have all twelve of our friends with us each day. We also got to meet our new Atelierista, Laura Lopresto-McKeown (Ms. Laura). She will be working with us in our classroom each day to help enhance our curriculum. This week she helped us to extend to explore some new textures. She brought in some large plastic bags with textures on the inside and the outside. We were able to squish them, pat them, and feel them. She also made us some balls out of different fabrics. One was really fuzzy and soft, another was slick and smooth, and the other one was coarse and rough. Our class really enjoyed holding them, feeling them, and throwing them. On Thursday morning after our walk, we decided to have a water day. We changed into our swimmers and turned on the water. We splashed in the pools and run through the sprinkler. We really enjoyed the cool, refreshing water. It was a nice activity to relieve us from the heat. It also made us so tired that we napped a little over two hours that day. We also had an unexpected activity this week. Since the air conditioner wasn’t working in our building we got to go and explore the three-year old classroom. We loved playing with their animals and listening to their music. We also enjoyed their puzzles and blocks. But our favorite thing in their room was the gerbil named Elmo. He even came out and said “Hello” to us while we were visiting, and he let us watch him drink water. Maybe we can go back and visit again sometime. It was so much fun! |
