This week has been a very hot week. The heat has limited our outdoor experiences, but at least we have still been able to take our morning walks. Thank you so much for getting us all here early enough to go for a walk before it gets too hot to be outside. This week on our walk, we discovered some baby ducks who say “Quack, quack, quack”. Some of the other sounds that we hear on our walk are frogs that croak and the cicadas who chirp. These walks are a great opportunity for us to explore our community, and meet the animals that live here. This week we had a wonderful music class. Everyone participated and had a great time. We sang and danced and played the musical instruments. Mrs. Cooke introduced a new activity which we all loved. She brought out a big, round drum and placed some rubber frogs on it. When we tapped on the drum the frogs would hop. We all found this to be hilarious! The room was filled with music and baby giggles. We were introduced to finger paints this week. This adds to our learning about textures. Some of us put our hands right into the paint and began rubbing it around. Others of us were a little hesitant to touch it at first, but we will be working on projects like this to enhance our sensory skills throughout the year. We had a great and productive week. We can’t wait to see what’s in store for next week! Have a great weekend!

This week in the Explorers Class we got to further explore textures. We were introduced to balls with different patterns on the outside, books made of new materials, and items like egg cartons and paper. The balls were a lot of fun. Some of us just sat and held them, others of us brought them to the teacher to throw, and some of threw them across the room. We could even put our fingers in the holes in some of the balls. We also had a couple of experiences with water this week. The first was a water day with our 2-year old friends. We got to run through the sprinkler, play in the pools, and splash in the puddles. Then a nice rain shower during our morning walk provided us with another opportunity to interact with water. Some of us were a little shocked by the rain at first, but then we actually enjoyed it. Our little class is growing up so much every single day. Most of us already know how to say “more” and “please” in sign language, and now we are beginning to work on “thank you”. Over the past couple of weeks we’ve all started to become more vocal and more social. We are learning how to interact with our friends and letting our personalities show. We are also making a lot of progress in our eating and drinking habits. Many of us who wouldn’t eat much of anything at first are now trying new foods and even starting to use our utensils instead of our fingers. We are a great little class!! We are learning and growing everyday and having so much fun in the process!! Have a great weekend, and we look forward to more fun next week!! _This week we welcomed our new friend Makai who turned one on Wednesday. He fits right in with our little group. We are all settling into our routine. We all sit down when it is time to eat and we are turning into great nappers as well! Over the past few weeks we have continued to work on textures. We have been reading the texture books and have been exploring with carpet and tile samples. In addition to that we have also been exploring with paper. When we were given paper it was so interesting to watch what each child did with it. Some of us ripped it, crumpled it up, and some even just put it in the trash! We are becoming great participants in specials as the weeks pass. In Yoga we had so much fun learning the downward dog, cobra, and the elephant moves. Mrs.Cooke introduced us to the parachute during music. It was so exciting running underneath it and playing peek-a-boo with our friends. Overall we have had a fantastic few weeks and we are all enjoying our day at LBS more and more everyday. |
