La Ropa (Clothes!)-- Today in Spanish we played dress-up! We learned the name for several articles of clothing and got to choose one to try on. We connected the words with our study of body parts by talking about where on the body the clothes should go. We also sang songs and played review games to practice colors, including the new words blanco y negro (black and white). *Some of the words in this lesson, such as pantalones and chaqueta, are cognates--these can be easier ones to try out at home! New Words: la camisa (shirt), los pantalones (pants), los zapatos (shoes), la chaqueta (jacket), la gorra (winter hat) Have a wonderful weekend! Our photos are here.

Last week along with this week, we have been continuing to learn letters. We did the letters B and C this week and will be continuing to move forward to complete the whole alphabet. We have also incorporated shapes into the learning as well. We've rearranged the classroom and we have a renewed dramatic play area where the children are all pretending to be working in a post office. They write letters to friends or family. There are also circle pans on the wall with magnet shapes that the children all enjoy using. Last week we said good bye to one of our friends, Denise and hope that she enjoys her new home and school in Texas!
In our specials this week and last, we had sign language, music, studio and Spanish. In sign language, each child learned the signs for what to wear when it is cold and the colors of a penguin along with beak and mittens. Ms. Julie also shared some facts about penguins. In music we sang so many of our favorite songs, "Together at School", "Steady Beat" and played instruments. We also learned a new song about clouds called "Clouds are Floating". In studio, last week we laid down on paper while Mrs. Neese traced our bodies and then this week we got to paint inside of the lines with different colors. 3's: Más con el Cuerpo-- In Spanish this week we continued with body parts and learned the word for "tail" (la colita) We found la cabeza and la colita on different toy animals like el dinosaurio, el elefante, and el tigre. We also made a memory game in class. I give instructions for crafts in Spanish as much as possible, while showing them what they are going to be doing. It is a great listening/attention exercise! They had to match up the correct front and back parts of several animals, paste them on a sheet of paper, and then color. At home they can leave the sheet as is, or if they like you could help them cut up each cards to play a game of Memory! Say "sí sí!" or "no no!" depending on whether the cards match. New word: cola (tail) Review Words: la cabeza (head), las piernas (legs), las manos (hands), los pies (feet) Our photos are here. Newsletter coming soon . . .
El Cuerpo/ the body Part 2: In Spanish this week we continued learning parts of the body. We added "Cabeza, hombros, piernas, pies" (Head Shoulders Knees and Toes) to our song list. We also played a mix and match animal game to match up the cabeza with the right tail part. They all love having a turn to participate! focus words: la cabeza (head), las piernas (legs), las manos (hands), los pies (feet) Our photos can be seen here. We hope everyone had a great Christmas and a Happy New Year! All of the children have told us something they would like to learn in the new year and one of those things mentioned that we are starting with is animals. We are going to make an animal alphabet. We started with the letter A and made an Alligator A. The alligators As are on display in the classroom.
Since the break we have also welcomed a new student to our class, Sofía Duhon. Everyone has shown her what we do in class. In yoga this week, we practiced our downward dog, warrior, butterfly and turtle pose as well as other favorites. We also played the washer/dryer game with Ms. Brittney. Ask your child to tell you how to play! In music, we learned some new songs and sang an old favorite - "Happy to be at School". We also pretended that we were in a marching parade at a carnival and we played the drums and music sticks. In Spanish this week we began learning the parts of the body. We identified la cabeza, los pies, las piernas, and las manos on pictures of animals and our friends in class. We had a race to see who could point them out on ourselves the fastest. We also read from the Eric Carle book De la cabeza a los pies (From Head to Toe) and had fun acting out the activities on each page. Make a game with your child by pointing to different body parts and asking la cabeza? until you get to the right one. new words: la cabeza (head), las piernas (legs), las manos (hands), los pies (feet) We hope everyone has a great weekend!!
