The Investigators had another exciting week! We enjoyed talking and learning more about firetrucks and what they are used for. On Monday we had creative movement where we took turns learning stop and go. Each person got a turn to hold a green shape and red shape and telling their friends when to stop and go. It was a fun way to practice following directions. On Tuesday we got the opportunity to take a field trip to the Port Royal Fire Station. We walked to the fire station and were very excited to have the chance to see the firetrucks up close; the first thing noticed was that the firetrucks are red. The firefighters showed us all of the parts of the firetruck. We even got to take turns sitting inside of the firetruck. In the end the firefighters gave us each a fire hat and a sticker. It was a great day! On Wednesday we had sign language where we learned about the letter H. We learned the sign for the letter H and words that start with H including horse, hammer, hotdog, hamburger, and hat. On Thursday we started the day off by drawing a picture of our favorite thing about the fire station. The pictures ranged from the actual firetruck, the whole fire station, to the ladder. We also had music where we got to sing about Spring. We did the chicken dance since baby chicks and ducklings hatch in the spring. We also used the shaker eggs to play a song, since that is where baby chicks come from. We finished by using the parachute and then using it as a picnic blanket. On Friday we enjoyed the nice weather where we used chalk to draw firetrucks outside. We also took some time to play on the 'big kid' playground by the four year old classroom. They loved the new experience. It was a great week!

The Investigators had another great week in their exploration of firetrucks. We continued to talk about the parts of the firetruck that we recognize and what a firetruck does. Monday was St. Patrick's Day. We were so excited to find that the leprechaun had come over the weekend leaving each child a shamrock and gold coin. He even turned the toilet water green! We talked more about St. Patrick's Day including about shamrocks, rainbows, and the color green. We finished our St. Patrick's Day projects by gluing a black pot and gold glitter to our rainbow hand print. We also had yoga on Monday where we practiced the crab pose, downward dog, and the cat pose. On Tuesday we continued our footprint firetruck projects. We took the drawing of a fire station we had created last week and added the firetruck. We used our footprint as the firetruck by painting our foot red and putting it on the paper. On Wednesday we began a cutting activity. We introduced scissors to half of the group and worked one on one with using them. We started by getting a circle with our name in it, then we used crayons to color the circle in. Half the group then used the scissors to cut out the circle. Wednesday we also had sign language where we learned about the letter G. We learned the signs for G, garden, flowers, gloves, dirt, and water. We then read a book about gardening. On Thursday we finished our footprint firetruck project by gluing on some of the parts that we've been learning. We glued a ladder, wheels, and lights onto our firetrucks making them complete. On Friday we created a card for the firefighters at Port Royal Fire Station, saying thank you to them. We started by coloring on the card, then each child added his or her handprint in either red or orange paint. It was a great week!
Our photos can be seen here. Reminder: We are headed to the Port Royal Fire Station next Tuesday, March 25. Please have your child at school by 9:00. If you are interested in walking along, please let us know. Have a great weekend, Mrs. Groves and Mrs. Pompa The Investigators had a fun week. We really enjoyed some of the nice weather we had this week and spent a lot of time playing outside. We continued to talk about firetrucks and introduced the holiday for Monday, St. Patrick’s Day. On Monday we had creative movement. We took turns finding specific foam shapes that were laid out on the floor. We also got to play with hula hoops, jumping in and out of them, jumping through them, and making them go around our waists. Monday we reviewed the parts of a firetruck by looking at the lights, the windows, the ladder, the wheels, the hose, and the sirens. On Monday we took a big step as a class, we began to eat on the porch like big kids! We did so well with listening, serving ourselves, taking our dirty plates up, and even pouring our own milk! We are getting more prepared for the big three year old class for June. On Tuesday we enjoyed the beautiful weather and went for a walk to go look at the firetrucks. On our way we saw turtles, birds, dogs, and police cars. We loved seeing the fire trucks and noticed right away all the parts we know like the lights and the hose. On Wednesday we had sign language. We learned some signs for St. Patrick’s Day like green, shamrock, and leprechaun. We also started a firetruck project we will finish next week by drawing a fire station onto paper with crayons. Next week we will make the firetruck to go in the fire station. On Thursday we began to talk more about St. Patrick’s Day. We learned that St. Patrick’s Day is a holiday in our new month March and shamrocks and the color green are for St. Patrick’s Day. We started a St. Patrick’s Day project by painting our hand like a rainbow and putting it on paper. Half of the class got to paint our hands on Thursday. We also had music where we got to play with bells and xylophones. We had fun taking turns playing the big drum as well. On Friday the second half of the class painted their hands like a rainbow. We also played with play dough and worked our fine motor skills. It was a great week!
Have a great weekend, Mrs. Groves and Mrs. Pompa The Investigators had a fun and exciting week. This week we celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday by having a Dr. Seuss themed week with lots of activities. We put our focus onto five specific books, one for each day. On Monday we started off with some yoga, we enjoyed being different animals including a turtle, dog, butterfly, and elephant. Monday we read the story 'Mr. Brown says Moo' and the class wore brown. After reading the story we talked about sounds we hear. We then used different instruments and listened to what sound they make, for example the drum goes 'boom boom'. On Tuesday we read the story 'One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish' and the class wore red and blue. We did a detailed project of a red fish and blue fish. We started by coloring inside the fish bowl and decorating it with crayon. Then we painted one of our hands red and one of our hands blue and put them in the fish bowl as fish. We finished the project by gluing the title of Dr. Seuss' book. We also celebrated Drew's 3rd birthday by eating cupcakes and giving her a birthday present. On Wednesday we had sign language where we learned the letters E and F. We learned the signs for elephant, egg, flower, feather, and fox. Wednesday we focused on the story 'Wacky Wednesday' and the class got to dress wacky. This was a fun day because everyone got to be silly. We completed a wacky project using stickers and different materials by gluing them to paper. On Thursday we read 'Green Eggs and Ham', the class enjoyed wearing green. For this story we participated in a science experiment. We started out with some hard boiled eggs. We added water, vinegar, and green food coloring to the eggs. The hypothesis was that the eggs would turn green. We checked them after snack and the eggs did turn green! We loved looking at and touching the eggs. On Friday we read 'Cat in the Hat' and the class wore stripes. We actually celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday by making him a giant birthday card. We also talked about our favorite things about Dr. Seuss. In the afternoon we attended a birthday party for Dr. Seuss and sang happy birthday to him. It was a great week!
