It's been a busy week in the Researchers' room! We are using a variety of materials to practice writing letters and drawing shapes. A ziploc bag of paint taped to a table is a reusable tool for writing. Dragging a finger or two across the bag creates lines and curves.
Next we made chocolate pudding! Using items from our kitchen, we measured, poured, and stirred following the pudding mix directions. Once the pudding became more solid, we scooped some onto individual plates and went to work drawing lines and shapes. Then we ate the pudding! Not only are we learning how to write letters but we're learning how letters sound, too. We've been listening to an alphabet phonics song, and I'm including the YouTube link so you can check it out at home. Here it is: VIDEO Our photos are here.

Now that we're settling into our Researchers class, we're discovering where we are and where we need to be before kindergarten next year. We've been reviewing letters and shapes, gripping writing utensils, and making observations about the world around us. We all know the first letter of our names, so now we're discussing the sounds letters make and other words that start with the same letter. Tracing our letter this week gave us fine motor muscle practice. We've been reading books about the alphabet, too!
Speaking of books, new author and yoga teacher Mrs. Brittney brought a copy of her new book "The Little Laughing Yogini" and read to us during class this week! We are so impressed by her, and the books will be available for purchase soon. Stay tuned for those details. We took a walk through our neighborhood and watched some construction workers busily building. We identified different tools they were using and made guesses as to what kind of structure they were building. We'll be keeping an eye on it. Have a great weekend! Our photos are here. We have had a fun week at school. We welcomed a new friend, Kellan, who has just moved here. We are happy to have him in our class. We continued to work on an alphabet that we will use to decorate our classroom. We had fun choosing the different materials to use on the collaged letters. Continuing with our discussions about the alphabet, we read a fun book called Chicka Chicka Boom Boom where all of the letters fall from the coconut tree and get all mixed up! Ms. Brittany was sick this week, so she did not lead yoga but we did some fun whole body exercise ourselves by using our bodies to create the letters of the alphabet on the rug. Ms. Carol came for music on Thursday and we enjoyed getting to learn some new songs with her.
We said goodbye to our friend Killian who moved back to Utah. We will miss him!! You can see the photos from our week here. Have a great weekend! We began this short week with a study of the capital letter A. We looked at the lines, made them ourselves, and identified some words that start with A, such as America. Using American colors such as red, white, and blue, we made patterns into bracelets. Some of us chose to do red-blue-red, red-red-blue-red-red, or other patterns. It was a great workout for our brains and for the fine motor muscles in our fingers to thread the beads on a pipe cleaner.
Then we continued the pattern practice by making individual American flags with construction paper, a white crayon, and glue. We identified the red-white-red pattern and then did it ourselves with strips of paper. We were happy to see Mrs. Brittany for Yoga this week, and we learned a new pose! We waddled like penguins with our heels together and our arms by our sides. Then we made ourselves into unicorns! When Ms. Fripp and Mrs. Carol came to Music on Thursday, we also found patterns in the beats we were making! We worked on our kazoo playing and remembering how to talk into this instrument instead of blowing. Next week we will add another concept to our talk about patterns by using shapes and colors. We will play some challenging brain games and work together in teams. Have a great long weekend! You can find our photos from the week here. |
