This week we reviewed many of the concepts we've learned throughout the year. On Monday, we used the textured bristle blocks to create awesome designs. Later in the week we used our stamping skills to create a beautiful spring picture. This week we also talked a lot about opposites: up and down, open and close, hot and cold. We even started discussing left and right. On Tuesday of this week, we celebrated Earth Day. We had some visitors from Beaufort County Recycling come in and talk to us about putting litter in the trash. We even got to participate in an activity with a character named "Auntie Litter" where we helped clean up litter and make a roadway more beautiful. A recycling character named "Rerun" also paid us a visit. We all loved being able to see and interact with the characters. Laura Lee Rose from Clemson Extension also came and taught us a couple of new songs about picking up litter. What an awesome day to celebrate taking care of our environment! This was our second week with our friends Ellie and Cork (baby chicks). We were able to watch them grow over the past couple of weeks. They went from being covered in down to having feathered wings and tails. Toward the end of the two weeks both chicks were able to jump onto the side of the box and perch. It was amazing to see how much they changed over such a short period of time. On Wednesday, Ms. Julie showed us the book we will be sharing during Portfolio Night (May 9th). It has many of the colors and animals we already know, so we should be able to combine all of that knowledge to share what we've learned this year. We're so excited to show everyone the things we've learned. Make sure you mark your calendars and make plans to join us. This week we (the students) found out that our friend, Colton, would be leaving our little group. Unfortunately, Friday was his last day. His family is relocating to Greenville to be closer to family. He started in our class in June of last year, and we will truly miss his beautiful blue eyes and that adorable smile. We wish his family the very best luck!

This week in our class we had an interesting new opportunity to explore baby animals. Benjamin's grandmother rented us a couple of baby chickens (Ellie & Cork) for us to observe for a couple of weeks. Throughout the week we've gotten to see them eat, hear them peep, and watch them grow. Having the chicks inspired us to create our own chicks, which we now have displayed in our class. This week in Yoga Ms. Brittney showed us how to waddle and peep like a baby chick. Plus we got to review some of our favorite poses like the cobra, the downward dog, and the butterfly. In Sign Language Ms. Julie taught us how to sign "I" and "ice cream". Then she taught us a new dance that included the signs "come", "go", "dance", "jump", and "sit down". In Music Mrs. Cooke taught us how to sing and dance to the "Grand Ole Duke of York". Then we got to use the wooden sticks to learn another new song where we pointed to parts of the body. We pointed to our heads, shoulders, noses, ears, noses, and toes. We did a great job. We're so smart!! On our walk this week we got to see some baby snakes, baby birds, and baby ducks. We also got to see lots of turtles and frogs. We even saw a couple of huge woodpeckers. It is so interesting to see the leaves growing and the flowers blooming on the trees. Our environment is changing everyday, and there is always something new for us to see and explore. We can't wait to see what we can find to explore next week! Have a great weekend!! April 8-12: This week on our walks we got to see so many animals. We saw something new each day. On Monday, we saw snakes swimming through the water. On Tuesday, we got to see many turtles basking in the sunlight. On Wednesday, we saw two big alligators. On Thursday, we were surprised to see two baby alligators. On Friday, we noticed some of the baby birds had hatched. Throughout the week it was amazing to see how much greener everything had become. We got to see RED cardinals, BLUE blue jays, and BROWN squirrels playing "peek-a-boo" and "tag" around the trees. One day, we even got to see a BLACK butterfly and a YELLOW butterfly. There were also many new colorful flowers everywhere. DIAMOND-shaped signs and CIRCULAR bus wheels helped our learning to come full circle. It helped us to remember and discuss things we already learned. Plus we got to explore lots of new concepts. Ms. Julie joined us for sign this week. She taught us the sign for "H". Then she taught us the signs for some words that begin with "H". We learned horse, hat, hair, hand, hamburger, and hotdog. We always enjoy Ms. Julie visiting with us. She always brings the neatest props for us to hold and share. We always look forward to seeing her. Next week we will continue to explore our environment. And we will continue to discuss the changes and new life that Spring brings each year. Thank goodness Mother Nature always provides us with new things to explore. Have a great weekend!! April 1-5 This week was a little more relaxed. We spent some time reviewing shapes. We talked about circles, squares, triangles, hearts, diamonds, stars, and ovals. We had lots of funk earning these shapes and searching for them in our environment. Next week we will takeout learning in a new direction. We were so inspired by the changes that come along with Spring that we decided to begin talking about baby animals. The egrets, ducks, and geese should be hatching their eggs soon, so we should be able to talk about the babies that will hatch. On our walks we should begin seeing lots of other new baby animals. We will be exploring the sights and sounds that come with new life and babies. This should be an exciting new adventure for our class. We can't wait to get started. Since it's beginning to get warmer, the bugs are starting to come back out. Please send in bug spray at your earliest convenience. If you have any ideas or contributions for our new exploration feel free to share. We are always open to new ideas. Thanks for all of your help and cooperation! Have a great weekend!! This week was an exciting week of projects. We spent most of our time talking about Spring and the new life it brings. On our walks we talked about all of the beautiful flowers and the green leaves growing on the trees. We even made our own Japanese Cherry Blossom trees from our handprints. We also talked about all of the birds building nests over in the Wetlands. There were several birds carrying sticks and twigs over to their nests as we were watching. So this gave us the idea to build our own nests. We collected sticks to build nests of our own. This idea tied in to our study of shapes. We got to talk about the eggs that the birds lay in the nests. We discussed the eggs being oval shaped (2-dimensionally). Then we boiled some eggs and colored them for the Easter holiday. We then put the eggs into our nests, and we talked about how the birds sit on them to keep them warm until they hatch. We had so much fun exploring colors and shapes and seasons. We even got to paint Easter egg cards to take to our "grand-friends" at the Helena House. On our visit, we got to sing and dance. We even got a special visit from the Easter bunny while we were there. He gave us eggs with stickers in them. Some of our friends talked about seeing the Easter bunny for days after seeing him. It's always nice to visit the Helena House. Our "grand-friends" love to see us and give us big hugs. We can't wait to see what next week has in store for us. We hope you all have a wonderful Easter weekend!! |
