This week was exciting with Halloween just around the corner. All the students are excited to share about pumpkin patch experiences and costume ideas. We've been focusing our learning on some of our favorite things about Halloween and the Autumn season. On Monday we had yoga where we got to do some of our favorite poses such as dog and turtle. On Tuesday we read 'A Very Busy Spider' by Eric Carle, in light of Halloween, and decided to create spiders. We painted both of our hands black and put them together on paper to look like a spider. On Wednesday we finished up our spiders by creating a spider web out of glue and glitter, we also added eyes to make our spiders complete. While half of us created our spiders the other half worked on coloring a 'big pumpkin' orange. This allowed us to visualize how big the pumpkin was in the book 'Big Pumpkin' by Erica Silverman. On Thursday we began to create witches to go with our big pumpkin. The witches were green, like the witch in the story. We used some of our favorite shapes to create the witch including a triangle, rectangle, and oval. We used glue and placed them on the paper for perfection. We also had music where we got to meet Mrs. Cooke's new friend 'Ghosty.' We sang songs with Ghosty and enjoyed being spiders with the giant scrunchy band. On Friday we had French where we got to learn more Halloween words in French. We liked the words un fantôme (ghost), un monstre (monster), un feu follet (jack-o-lantern). We also finished our witches by adding a heart foam shape for the lips, string for hair, and googly eyes. It was a great week, but we are even more excited for all the fun next week will bring. Have a great weekend, Mrs. Groves and Mrs. Pompa

The Investigators have had a great week! We started the week off with Creative Movement on Monday! Ms. Sue brought along some fun props that we enjoyed getting the chance to use. We were able to use some of her instruments that brought for us. We made music using tambourines, cow bells, maracas, and wooden cow clackers. We marched around with these instruments in different directions, and made slow and fast tunes! Ms. Sue also brought along a parachute for us to test out. As we made the parachute go slowly up and down each child was able to run underneath to the other side. Walking around in a circle like a Carousel was very successful, we loved this one! On Tuesday we took an investigative walk through the Cypress Wetlands. We looked closely and talked about what we were seeing as we were walking, so that we could make our own drawing of the area. When we got to the amphitheater in the front of the Wetlands we stopped and discussed what we saw on our adventure. We sat down, and drew our interpretation of the Cypress Wetlands using oil pastels. Wednesday Ms. Julie came to see us for Sign. Our focus this week was on Fall as well as apple and the different colors and types of apples. Ms. Julie brought in some props to help out with what we were learning, such as an apple pie, different colored apples, apple sauce, apple butter, and a candy apple. There are several different colored apples, so we took at a look at those as well, and were able to match them up with other apples that had similar colors. We also learned the different parts of the apple such as, the skin, stem, seeds and core. We also reviewed our fall colors of brown, red, orange and yellow. We enjoyed reading a book about Fall that Ms. Julie brought to share. On Thursday we began to make our own Big Pumpkin! Since we love the book Big Pumpkin by Erica Silverman, we thought it would be a great idea to make our own. We started by painting a paper plate orange, and adding our own stem and vine to go along with the book, since the witch and her friends are all trying to get the huge pumpkin off the vine! Friday we celebrated O'Wren's third birthday! She is our first three year old this year! We hope to see everyone that can make it to the Open House on Sunday, October 20th! The ice cream social is a great way to get to know all of the other families and a great chance to see what your child has been up to this year so far! Have a great weekend! The Investigators had a fun week taking a further look into the Cypress Wetlands. This week we continued to talk about some of the animals and plants residing in the Wetlands. We also continued to work on our sign language about the Cypress Wetlands including alligator, bird, turtle, frog, butterfly, tree, grass, flower, and bug. On Monday we talked about how some of the leaves at the Wetlands were turning from green to different colors. This also had to do with our new word Autumn. We took green paper, cut out like a leaf, and we used some of the colors we noticed including red, orange, yellow, and brown to paint the leaves. We also had yoga where we traveled with our imagination to the zoo to walk like an elephant, a crab, and a dinosaur. On Tuesday we finally go to finish our collaboration mural of the Cypress Wetlands we've been working hard on. We used glue, tape, and staples to attach some of the items we had collected on our walk last week to the Wetlands. We attached some leaves, sticks, feathers, spanish moss, and more. On Wednesday we talked all about our favorite animal that lives at the Cypress Wetlands, the alligators! We love everything about alligators and even like to sing about them. We created our own alligators using our handprint. We painted our hand green for the alligator's head and attached the teeth and eyes. On Thursday we enjoyed the beautiful weather and took some time to play outside. While outside we observed some of the leaves that were on the ground. We noticed these leaves looked just like the leaves we made on Monday with all different colors. We also worked on gluing some pictures as a display of what we've been learning about the Wetlands. In the morning we got to make a card because it was Miss Kennithiya's birthday. In the afternoon we got to celebrate and eat cupcakes with her! On Friday we had French class where we continued to sing some of our favorite songs in French. We also talked about some colors in French such as rouge (red), bleu (blue), violet (purple), and vert (green). We also took some time to talk about our letters and color our individual letters in with crayon. We are doing great at recognizing our letters! We can even recognize our names on our coat hooks looking for our first letters! Reminder: Now that it is jacket season please be sure to label jackets before bringing them in. Thank you and have a great weekend, Mrs. Groves, Mrs. Pompa & Miss Kennithiya The Investigators had a great week! As many of the children have been taking walks through the Cypress Wetlands since they started at LBS last year, they are very aware of and interested in what actually lives and grows there. On Monday we introduced the idea of learning about the Wetlands by looking at some of the pictures of the Cypress Wetlands. We talked about the usual trees and plants we see and about some of the birds, turtles, frogs, and alligators. We also had yoga. We enjoyed working hard on our crab, turtle, and downward dog poses. We take some of the things we learn in yoga and use them during the day. For example when we get frustrated we practice breathing and being calm. On Tuesday we actually took a walk to the Cypress Wetlands to take a closer look. During this walk we noticed many things that make up the Cypress Wetlands. We saw turtles, alligators, dragon flies, frogs, mosquitoes, trees, leaves, flowers, and water. We collected some of nature we saw like leaves, sticks, and bark. The plans are to include these to our collaborative mural we will be making. We also introduced a new month, October, and a new season, Autumn. We introduced two new letters that we are learning including A for apple and Autumn, and B for Benjamin, our friend in the one year old class who sometimes enjoys circle time with us. On Wednesday we had sign language where we began to talk about Fall. We learned some signs that had to do with the season like Fall, acorn, leaves, tree, seasons, and pumpkin. We also read a story about seasons. We began to create our collaborative mural of the Cypress Wetlands. Half of us painted the sky using blue and white. Half of us painted the water of the Wetlands using green, brown, and yellow. On Thursday we learned some sign language that specifically has to do with the Cypress Wetlands. We learn signs that have to do with each area we study. In the end we will have a sign wall that students can go and practice all of their signs. We learned alligator, birds, turtle, frog, bug, tree, grass, flower, and butterfly. Thursday we had some sensory time using sensory bottles and balls in the sandbox. We also go the chance to play on a new playground the 'big kids' use, the one on the far right of the big building. We loved playing there with lots of trucks and a raised sand box. On Friday we had French class where we enjoyed singing some of our favorite songs in French. We liked to sing Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes in French which is la tête (head), les épaules (shoulders), les genoux (knees), et les orteils (toes), also les yeux (eyes), et les oreilles (ears), et la bouche (mouth), et le nez (nose). On Friday we also continued to work on our collaborated mural. In small groups we came inside to paint things like trees and animals onto the mural. Overall, it was a great week! Have a great weekend, Mrs. Groves and Mrs. Pompa |
