We hope everyone has a great weekend! This week we did two Thanksgiving projects that we will be finishing up next week. For one project we used Legos and yellow and brown paint to stamp the Legos onto paper. It will become part of our corn stalks. We talked about what it is to be thankful and shared it with Mrs. Pompa. We have been very busy practicing the Thanksgiving songs we are going to sing at the Helena House. We are going on Tuesday, Nov. 25, and all are welcome to come and walk with us.
We had sign language with Ms. Julie, where we talked about family. We learned the signs for family, mom, dad, brother, sister, grandma, grandpa and cousin. Ms. Julie showed us pictures of her family. She also read us a book about Thanksgiving. We also got to color a turkey. ¿Qué día es hoy? (What's the day today?).......In Spanish this week we learned about los días de la semana, or the days of the week. We learned a choo-choo train chant with a whistle at the end to practice the days. Of course, we will concentrate on "viernes" since Spanish class is on Fridays. Notice the days of the week are not capitalized in Spanish! We will use the knowledge of the days to build on our calendar activities. We also played some short games and sang songs to review what we have learned up to now (cómo estás, #s1-10, shapes, colors, weather). new words: lunes (Monday), martes (Tuesday), miércoles (Weds.), jueves (Thursday), viernes (Friday), sábado (Saturday), domingo (Sunday) Have a great weekend! Ms. Condon and Mrs. Pompa REMINDER: We only have school next Monday and Tuesday. Our photos are here.

We hope everyone had a great Veteran’s Day! This week, we have been learning about different kinds of leaves. We learned about what oak, ginkgo and maple leaves look like. We learned that in the fall when the leaves fall that they may be different colors. Each child got to color the 3 different kinds of leaves and glue them onto paper. We also welcomed our new teacher, Ms. Condon, into our class.
We had sign language with Ms. Julie, where we went over different signs for the story of the settlers' voyage to America aboard the Mayflower. We also reviewed the signs for different foods that are served at Thanksgiving dinner. New this week we saw how to set the table with plates and silverware and learned the signs for plate, napkin, fork, knife, spoon, and cup . In Studio with Mrs. Neese we fingerpainted. It is always interesting to see how each child has his/her own individual style of "fingerpainting". Some of us only dip the very tip of our finger in the paint and quite precise with the paint placement, while others of us use our entire lower arms to create our picture. Fingerpainting and the fine motor skill exercise it provides is an important way to get our muscles ready to write. It was also Mrs. Neese’s birthday so we all got to sing happy birthday to her. Spanish: ¿Qué tiempo hace? (What's the weather like?).......In Spanish this week we learned about el tiempo, or the weather. We learned actions to practice weather expressions. We also introduced a "weatherman" activity and will have a student check and report on the weather each class. We read the wonderful picture book "Un recorrido por las estaciones," ("Skip through the Seasons"), talking about the weather on each page and also seeing who could spy different objects in the illustrations. Ask your child, ¿Hace sol?...pronounced ah-say sole.....(is it sunny?) new words: hace sol (it is sunny), está nublado (it's cloudy), llueve (it's raining), hace viento (it's windy) answer review: sí (yes), no (no) You can see our photos from the week here. Ms. Condon and Ms. Pompa We have been seeing dots this week!
We started the week off with a lesson on cause and effect with the book, "Press Here." We followed the directions in the book and watched as the dots moved and changed. The dots grew in number and in size. They changed colors and made a pattern. They moved left, right, up and down. You never knew what the dots would look like on the next page. We used colorful dot stickers to make our own dot pictures, and some of us made our own book! We shared our pictures with the class as we we pressed our imaginary dots to see where the dots would move from one child's art to the next. We continued to create with dots by making dot pictures outside. We also made a collaborative art piece inside the classroom. The work we have been doing with the dot stickers has been fun, but more than that the kids have been exploring and learning. They have been talking about colors, patterns, position, and lines all week. Plus they have been working those finger muscles by peeling and sticking the dots to their paper. In addition, their excitement and creativity has been a pleasure to watch. We were also excited to celebrate 2 birthdays this week. Sophie and Finley turned 4! We loved singing and eating cupcakes with them. In Yoga, we followed along as Ms. Brittany showed us poses. We love making the animal sounds for some of the moves. The washing machine was a hit again. You never know what the kids have in their baskets! In sign this week, Ms. Julie taught us lots of words and signs related to the first Thanksgiving. We will use these words for the next couple of weeks and even use them to tell a story by the end of the month. With Mrs. Neese, we explored painting in new ways. The kids worked together in small groups to paint a colorful collaborative piece. They are always excited to go to studio. In Spanish the kids talked about numbers and shapes. They made a shape collage and counted the number if side to determine what shape they created. They also played a shape sorting game that became a fun way to practice their Spanish vocabulary. Thank you for sharing your children with me. I enjoyed being their teacher. I am so sorry that I could not finish the year with them. We were making great progress in the class. I was excited to see all the ways we would grow and learn. Fortunately, I know I am leaving them in great hands and that their year will be filled with great accomplishments and fun. I sure am going to miss them! Mrs. Mickel From Senora Zoe: ¿Cuántos lados tiene el triángulo? (How many sides does a triangle have?).......In Spanish this week we learned about las formas, or geometrical shapes. We practiced identifying and counting how many sides each shape has. We also did a sorting activity and a craft involving shapes....crafts are a great opportunity to practice the skill of actively listening to directions in Spanish. Ask your child to count the sides of shapes with you in Spanish! new words: el triángulo (triangle), el cuadrado (square), el rectángulo (rectangle), el círculo (circle) numbers review: 0 cero, 1 uno, 2 dos, 3 tres, 4 cuatro colors review: rojo (red), azul (blue), verde (green), amarillo (yellow) You can see our photos from this week here. We do have one spot available in the class if you know of anyone interested. If they let us know that you referred them, you can get $150 off your next tuition payment. |
