It was another exciting week in the Inquirers class! We worked on our alphabet books. We made jellyfish Js and kaleidoscope Ks. We also got to work on some of our wall letters. We made a yarn-filled Y and toothpick-filled T. Our class is really beginning to grasp the concept of letters and the sounds that they make.
On Tuesday this week we celebrated St. Patrick's Day. We created our own shamrocks by making patterns in green paint. We also learned about primary and secondary colors. We talked about primary colors (red, blue, and yellow) and how they can be mixed to make secondary colors (orange, green, and purple). We made primary and secondary colored paints and used them to make rainbow toast. Then we had Mrs. Gray cook our toast for us to have for snack. Later in the afternoon, we heard about a leprechaun who was seen roaming around on the playground. When we went outside to see, we found that he had left us little pots with treasures in them. It was so much fun looking for these "pots of gold" which were left for us. What a fun day we had together! On Thursday this week, Mrs. Fripp came to visit and share some new music with us. She also brought a giant rain stick and showed us how to make music with it. It was so appropriate since it was raining on Thursday, and we were able to sing The Raindrop Song together. And once again our favorite part of music was when Mrs. Fripp brought out her ukelele and sang The Lion Sleeps Tonight with us. We love to sing the "wee-ma-way, wee-ma-way" as she plays. We can't wait to see what we're working on next week! Please bring in bug spray at your earliest convenience. Have a great weekend! Check out our photos here.

This was such a beautiful week! We were able to have lots of outside time. We got to draw with the sidewalk chalk, build with the outside blocks, and kick the balls. We even got to go on a couple of walks. On the walks we got to see turtles, birds, and even alligators. It was also nice to see the green leaves returning to the trees and to hear all of the sounds of the Wetlands.
In the classroom this week, we continue to work on our letters for the wall. We created an M with mulch (which is one of our favorite things on the playground) and a P with pompoms. We also read a book called When I Feel Angry. It was about strategies for when you get angry. One suggestion the book us was to take deep breaths to help us to calm down. We used this concept for a special project where we got to take deep breaths and blow air out through a straw. When Ms. Julie came this week, she showed us the signs for A, B, and C. Then we learned the signs for Apple and Alligator, Ball and Butterfly, and Cat and Car. In Music this week, we got to make an awesome train and shake our instruments as the train moved along. And we got sing a greeting song in both English and Spanish. But our favorite part was singing the Lion King song as we said goodbye to Ms. Fripp. What fun?! We can't wait to see what next week has in store!! It's that time of year again (sand gnat season). Please bring in big spray at your earliest convenience. Our photos are here. What a Seuss-tastic week we have had!! We had so much fun celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday! A lot of our week was spent reading many of Dr. Seuss' books and listening for all of the rhymes.
On Monday, we started out by reading The Cat in the Hat and decorating Dr. Seuss hats. We also played a game where we matched words that rhyme with one another. The pictures on the cards helped us to see that cat rhymes with hat and mouse rhymes with house. On Tuesday, we read Fox in Socks and noticed that fox and socks rhyme. Then we made foxes to hang up in our room. Wednesday was Wacky Wednesday, so we all dressed a little silly to celebrate. We saw friends wearing shorts over pants, mismatched socks, and even crazy hats! What a fun day! We also read One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. This allowed us to talk about colors and numbers. We even played a One Fish, Two Fish.... game brought in by Debbie Burke (Grayson's mom). We spent time throughout the day counting objects in our classroom. Thursday was a very exciting day! We wore green in celebration of Green Eggs and Ham. And we ate lots of green foods: morning snack was green apples, lunch was ham and cheese sandwiches with "green eggs & ham" and our afternoon snack was green muffins. It was very interesting to see how many friends wanted to try these foods and how many didn't (based on how they looked). It was an interesting eating adventure. Thursday was also music day with our guest teacher, Ms. Fripp. She brought some new drums for us to explore. We learned how to play rhythms as we danced around the class. We even made a train and followed our friends around the class as we made sounds with our instruments. Thursday also brought many guest readers to our class. Mrs. Duhon (Sofía's mom) came to read ABC. We were so excited to see the animals Dr. Seuss was able to think up. We were also visited by Naomi Campbell's Papa Garner (who read One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish) and her G-ma (who read The Cat in the Hat). Both stories were exciting and funny. From the guy who couldn't hear because there was a bird in his ear to the cat who came to play while mother was away, we had a wonderful Dr. Seuss filled day! Friday we dressed as our favorite Dr. Seuss characters. Our class had some Cindy Lou Whos (How the Grinch Stole Christmas), some Cats in the Hats, Mr. Brown (Mr. Brown Can Moo. Can You?), and a One Fish, Two Fish....friend. We even had another guest reader. Naomi Campbell's mom joined us to read Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You? We loved being able to make all of the noises in the book. We buzzed like bees and tick-tocked like a clock. We even got to sound like a hand on a door (knock knock). Mrs. Campbell brought us some Dr. Seuss pencil and erasers to take home to help us remember our fun adventure. This week in Spanish we sang our Una Sardina song, we dressed our friend Froggy to practice clothes, and read from Huevos Verdes Con Jamón (Green Eggs and Ham) by Dr. Seuss. In the Spanish version instead of "Sam" to rhyme with "ham," the narrator is "Juan Ramón" to rhyme with "jamón" : ) We noticed Juan was enojado at the beginning but feliz at the end. Then we learned a new song, Así Nos Lavamos las Manos Hoy (This is the way we wash our hands) which is about the things you do every day. What a great week we had celebrating! We can't wait to see what next week has in store! Thank you to all of our parents for being so supportive of our class. Have a great weekend! You can see our photos here. |
